My grandparents never slept in the same room (on both sides of the family). When my dad was working a rotating shift, he always slept on the sofa. My husband snores like crazy, and I have chronic fatigue and difficulty getting Stage 4 sleep phase, so hubby has his own room.
In Jewish tradition, according to the Torah, all the Matriarchs had their own private tents. In Orthodox Jewish homes, a pair of twin beds is customary for married couples. There's tons of historic presidence for this!
